In June, I'll Write the Streets After the Rain 5/31
六月は雨上がりの街を書く
| English | Romaji |
|---|---|
The town's azure reflection in the window |
Mado utsuru machi no gunjou |
| The early summer rain running through the waterspout | Amadoi wo tsutau satsukiame |
| I sit and watch them in a daze | Bouto-shita mama miteiru |
| A single drop falls, down and down | Shizuku hitotsu ochiru, ochiru |
My heart has a shape like a rectangle |
Kokoro no katachi ha chouhoukei |
| It exists only inside this piece of paper | Kono kami no naka dake ni yadoru |
| I've written out a list of my songs | Kakitsuraneta uta no hyoumen |
| You exist only in the clear film floating atop them | Sono uwazumi ni dake kimi ga iru |
But that's ridiculous |
Nante kudaranai yo |
| I think it's absurd | Bakabakashii yo |
| I want to see something that isn't just logical | Rikutsu ja nai mono ga mitai n da yo |
| The heavy scent of the rain | Fukai ame no nioi |
| It wouldn't do to simply forget about it | Kitto wasureru dake son dakara |
Make your mouth move |
Kuchi wo ugokashite |
| Trace the shape with your fingers | Yubi de nazotte2 |
| Sew it together with words | Kotoba de nuitsukete |
| And wait there, in that town | Ano machi de mattete |
The streetlights dancing to the sound of the rain |
Amaoto no odoru gaitou |
| The turn in the road up ahead at eventide | Usugure no saki no magarikado |
| Alone, a parade of footsteps | Hitori, ashioto no PARE-DO |
| The blue haze of the clouds, awaiting the summer | Natsu wo matsu kumo no kasumi-ao |
The way I'm living now is i^2 |
Ima no kurashi ha AI no nijou1 |
| It's less than zero, since you've been subtracted from it | Kimi ga hikareteru ZERO no shita |
| In the midst of a June after the rain | Omoide no naka de shika mienai |
| That I can only see in my dear memories | Rokugatsu no ameagari no naka de |
I write down even your smiling face |
Waratta kao datte kakinagutte |
| Hollowing out my chest | Mune wo egutte |
| You had to already know it would be unsatisfying | Warikirenai no mo shitteta n daro |
| Though it wouldn't do to simply forget the heavy scent of the rain | Fukai ame no nioi datte wasureru dake son na no ni |
But I just want to see the look on your face |
Tada boku no kaita tegami wo yonda |
| When you read the letters I wrote | Kimi no sono kao ga mitai |
| I'm writing out that summer | Ano natsu wo kaiteru |
Nothing at all seems to matter to me |
Dou datte ii koto bakari da |
| And getting involved with others is tiresome | Kakawari-au no mo okkuu da |
| And putting things into words is a pain | Kotoba ni dasu no mo mendou da |
| Was it really only you all along? | Kekkyoku kimi dake datta no ka |
I mean, it's ridiculous |
Datte kudaranai yo |
| I think it's absurd | Bakabakashii yo |
| And I already knew it wasn't just logical | Rikutsu ja nai no mo shitteta n da yo |
| The heavy scent of the rain | Fukai ame no nioi |
| I've always been writing this rainy town | Zutto ame no machi wo kaiteiru |
I make my soul move |
Kokoro wo ugokashite |
| I burn out my chest | Mune wo kogashite |
| I sew it all together like this | Kono mama nuitsukete |
| And I wait there, in that town | Ano machi de matteru |

1 Calling back to the first vocal track on the album, 藍二乗 (ai nijou). The phrase is written here as "i^2" (AI-no-nijou). i, the imaginary unit constant, is equal to √-1, so squaring it results in -1.
2 Written very unconventionally with the kanji 擦, meaning "to chafe" or "to scrape". This pronunciation of this kanji isn't listed anywhere I can find, but is presumably being used to highlight the tangible act of pressing your finger into something to follow its shape or outline, possibly over and over following the definitions of こする.
